Well, damn. I seem to have moved to Tampa somehow. How did that happen?

Some short weeks ago, I sent out a resume to a screen printing company based on the reccomendation of an friend which will remain nameless. After a half dozen phone conversations, the company flew me down for a weekend and have now hired me as a full time artist. I'm still in a lot of disbelief over it all. A few weeks ago I was lazing about Martinsville, VA, about as boring a piedmont town as you could possibly find anywhere. And just tonight I saw Johnny Lang perform at a blues festival in St. Petersburg by the bay. With my new boss, even. I'm practically dizzy from the change.

:iconmallaard: and I made the long, treacherous journey from Kannapolis, NC down 10+ hours of highway into the Tampa area, and sucessfully wheedled a position for him at the same company. At the end of that little excursion, Deric told me that if I had told him a year ago that he'd get a job in Tampa and the same day be walking along the Gulf of Mexico with me, that he'd have called me "a fucking liar." Well, that all happened.

The new Tool album, 10,000 Days, is out now. Came out May 2nd, and I forgot about it entirely and ended up sort of accidentily picking it up on the 4th. The last album I was this blown away by was "Frances the Mute", and I think this affects me a little deeper since Tool has been one of my very favorite bands ever since I heard Aenima way back when.

Lateralus was a very strong album, but I think Tool has really grown in making 10,000 days. The music is deep and rich, nothing short of fantastic. Lateralus I didn't like so much when I first heard it, but I found 10,000 days immediately to my liking. It's still got a lot of the meandering feel Lateralus had, but more refined, with bits of throwback to older, harder-rocking Tool material from Aenima or Opiate.

Anyway, I'm a-tired. I have almost no furniture here in Tampa, so I'm sleeping on the floor, or at least have been until tonight, since my new boss took pity on my and lent me an air mattress. I'll sleep good tonight.

I too am lacking in the furniture. I heard the new Tool album, and though I have not had a chance to give it a serous listen, I like it quite a bit, and the packaging is awesome. I'm really happy for you and Deric both, getting a job you'll enjoy and in a cool town.

How far are you from Savannah?
